사랑思量

"Sarang" once meant "to think"

Five hundred years ago, the Korean word for love meant something else.

   Five hundred years ago, sarang meant "thought."

   한자로 생각할 사, 헤아릴 량.

   In Chinese characters: 思 sa, to think — 量 ryang, to weigh.

   You keep thinking about someone.

   Think long enough and you miss them. Miss them and you want to see them.

   그래서 생각이라는 말이 어느새 사랑이 되었다.

   And so the word for "thought" quietly became the word for love.

   지금은 생각이라는 뜻은 사라지고 사랑만 남았다.

   Today the "thought" is gone. Only sarang remains.

   그러니 사랑한다는 말은, 네 생각을 많이 한다는 말이다.

   So saranghae really means: I think about you. A lot.
