How it works

1. Step 1

   Listen faster than you can follow

   At 2× and above the gaps disappear before the sounds do. The ear stops waiting for each word and starts taking the line whole.

2. Step 2

   Say it back into the pause

   Every line is followed by a pause as long as the line. You answer out loud there — that is where listening turns into speech.

3. Step 3

   Ten minutes, then stop

   The ear settles between sessions, not during them. Coming back tomorrow beats pushing through today.

Why uncompressed

MP3 and AAC were built to make files small, and what they drop first is the thin, fast part of speech — consonants, the edges of syllables. At normal speed you fill those gaps from memory. At 3× there is no time to fill anything, so the gaps are simply missing. Every file we ship is uncompressed PCM: nothing was thrown away before it reached your ear.
